Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school day begins with 'it's a great day today for learning!' Then we are off to Phonics, Reading, Writing and Math. At the end of the school year I would love for all my students to be reading on grade level. My favorite quote is 'Our classroom is our home. Lets keep it clean.' Organization!

My students are wonderful!

I have fifteen girls and ten boys. They are seven years old and they come from a diverse background. My students come from eight different countries. We learn from one another. Today I saw two girls from Yemen, teaching my spanish speaker students a game from their country. It was amazing! Our school is our second home. Being a title one school, resources are limited and a vast majority of our students qualify for free lunch. In our school we validate our differences and learning styles. Our students need so much more than others because of their socioeconomic status and their challenging living environment. However, our school and our teachers make the best of what we have and at times we have to purchase the things we need to make sure that our children are meeting and exceeding the standards.

My Project

Wow! I think I can envision a place in which students will be encouraged to organize themselves and their materials. This will give them a sense of pride and responsibility in their classroom environment. The cabinet will house our art materials, paper, books, glue, charts and other supplies we use throughout our school year. Having a place to store materials will encourage my students to engage in different modes of learning such as putting on plays and presentations. A printer will provide the students with a means to write their own skits which they will then present to other classes in our school. They can also use the printer to print out stories, poems and personal narratives that they create throughout the year. We will be able to celebrate these writing pieces with our classroom communities and our families.

Imagine having an enormous bedroom with a tiny closet.

Well, that's what we have for 25 people. This project will not only store our supplies and materials. Students will be able to take pride in their environment. My goal is for students to be able to use their creativity in the classroom with many supplies available at their disposal. Having a printer will give my students the ability to display their hard work to all of the other classes as well as the school community.
