Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Differences make people special. Being able to learn about, and from, those differences make these individuals even more unique. As a counselor, I have the privilege of working with and getting to know almost the entire student population, and let me tell you: I am one lucky person!

From building special bonds with the students that have the most difficulty, to getting big smiles on the way into the school, my students have made an immense impact on me, and I would like to give back to them at least a part of what they have instilled in me.

My students, predominately Hispanic in origin, have hard-working families and, many times, strenuous schedules that ensure they are building strong characters and distinct personalities. They undergo tumultuous lifestyles for the purpose of their educational pursuits, and they deserve to have a safe and calming place in the school to talk, vent and grow as individuals.

My Project

In the process of becoming a Leader In Me school, we allowed the students to create and "lead" their own after school groups. One of these groups at our primary learning center is a choir! We have 21 little singers that are excited to share their talents with the world. In order to make this possible, there are some supplies that would definitely facilitate their growth and involvement in school.

Quoting the astute philosopher, Plato, "Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything."

I am a firm believer in the impact of music on learning and development, and as a counselor, I feel the need to promote and support the dreams and aspirations of my kiddos. These supplies, including a PA system, microphones, and stands, will allow for the Mater Music Makers to share their gifts with our school and community.
