Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Whole or hole? Is re- a prefix or a suffix? Don't spill the beans? These are all questions my students need answers to. With your support my students will master basic skills, work with words, and learn more vocabulary.

My students live in high poverty area and the majority of them are ELL.

I want to be able to provide them with the highest chances at succeeding at life. I want to prepare my students for middle and high school. I love having the supplies needed to have my students reach their goals.

My Project

Having these resources will allow my students to have a hands on approach to working with vocabulary. They will be able to have fun while they learn. They will work with other students and be able to show me what they know without using the paper and pencil method. The Idiom Teaching Cards will help them understand the type of vocabulary that doesn't really mean what it says. They will be able to have a picture along with a detailed explanation of Idioms. The Word Work Center will allow them to explore abbreviations, contractions, plurals, and much more. The Vocabulary activity station will allow them to build essential language skills while working with partners and having fun. The Vocabulary Match Up Set will allow them to match up words with their pictures and learn about prefixes, suffixes, multiple meaning words, and context clues.

This project is important because a vocabulary is critical to reading success.

Comprehension improves when you know what the words mean. Since comprehension is the ultimate goal of reading, you cannot overestimate the importance of vocabulary development. Words are the currency of communication. A robust vocabulary improves all areas of communication — listening, speaking, reading and writing. When children improve their vocabulary, their academic and social confidence improve too.
