Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a high poverty "Title I" school in Wisconsin. Our students other challenges include trauma, and being homeless. As a special education teacher, all of my students also have learning disabilities, and come with a mix of delayed academic abilities, social skills, coping skills, and high anxiety.

My students would benefit from instruction, activities and support in learning mindfulness, self-regulation and self-soothing by learning skills to reduce their own stress, and learn to relax and quiet their minds, and becoming more focused, self-aware and motivated.

My Project

The children will be giddy with anticipation as they roll out the yoga mats, pull a yoga card or roll the yoga dice in order learn new yoga positions, mindful meditations, increase their flexibility, improve their stamina, and learn to strategies in how they can calm themselves.

My students will be excited to get their personal journal and special pen off the shelf in order to practice the new "zentangle" pattern they are about to learn.

After recording a thoughtful reflection in their journal they will use the watercolor pencils to add color to the beautiful zentangle they drew inside their journal. These activities all add up to more secure and happy children ready to learn.
