This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is both ethnically and financially very diverse. But, I feel that both myself and my students benefit from the mix of students we have as it provides access to opinions, cultures and situations that each student may not experience themselves.

The Stagecraft class does projects for both of our shows each year as well as projects that expose them to a variety of backstage careers.

Because we cover so many different areas of backstage work we need many different tools and materials. On a school budget it's difficult to make this variety available to the kids. I want to be able to give them even just a small taste of what each backstage person does to contribute to the show. Supplies for things like mask making or casting in plaster and laytex to make fake food props would be an interesting addition to the students school year.

My Project

We need more options when making props and doing projects in class that are as close as I can get them to what a real backstage crew would use for similar jobs. It's difficult to purchase the variety of tools and supplies we need for a class like this and some additional options would open up what we are able to produce in class. I would like to make masks and introduce the kids to working in laytex both for masks and making prop food. To do this we need dust masks, to work with plaster and laytex for casting images.
