My Students

Did you know that math can be fun? In my classroom the students cheer when I tell them that it's time for math. I'm certain that's because we routinely use math games to reinforce the concepts we're learning. We need supplies so I can create reusable math games for hours of educational fun!

I teach second grade in an urban school in New York.

Our student population is amazingly diverse: academically, ethnically, culturally, and economically. Watching young people from such differing backgrounds come together to create a cohesive and cooperative classroom community is always an inspiration to me.

My Project

My students absolutely love playing math games, whether it's Tens Go Fish, which reinforces the grasp of combinations that equal 10, or How Far to 100, which solidifies the understanding of double-digit addition and subtraction, or Roll a Rectangle, which introduces geometry and multiplication concepts, my students are always eager to play these learning games. The materials I've requested will enable me to make multiple copies of each game, and then laminate them so the students can use them repeatedly.

Watching my students learn and enjoy math games is always a pleasure.

But more importantly, these games truly strengthen the students' understanding of math concepts. My goal is to instill in my students a life-long love of math. Please help me reach that goal!
