My Students

"I am filled with vision and purpose; I oversee my own destiny.  I remove everything that disables my progress and hinders growth.  I succeed because I want to succeed.  I do not compete with others, but only challenge myself. The best thing I can ever do is to believe in me and fulfill my full potential.

Working together is a part of the purpose of life.  Therefore, I will choose my words carefully to encourage, create positive experiences for myself, and those around me.

Because I affirm these things in my life, just as fertilized seeds grow, my future is bright and my outcome is sure. "

The above affirmation is recited by the students, preceded by 15 seconds of mediation before class begins daily. I tell them that you are who you believe you will become. This affirmation sets the tone and expectations of the class.

I teach at a Title I school in Atlanta; the majority of the students are from low S.E.C. and they do not always have access to technology. They are eager and willing to learn. I foster an environment conducive to learning where students believe and become everything they aspire to be.

My Project

I've noticed that students are more prone to engage during instruction time when they are asked to show their work on whiteboards. To maintain student engagement, I would like a small supply of dry erase markers. I'm also asking for a supply of snacks and certificates. Student engagement is instantly increased when snacks are involved (lol, imagine that). The certificates will be presented to students, at the end of each unit, who achieved 85% mastery. These items will give students a sense of achievement and prompts them to work hard to maintain mastery or to achieve it. Please join in and support my students!
