Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our school is committed to creating a safe, equitable learning environment for our beloved students. In this second-grade classroom, we have 23 hard-working students from North Philadelphia. These students bring a diverse set of identities to our classroom that contribute to the rich culture of our community. It is crucial to me to develop a space that feels representative to each of these students.
For many of these 2nd grade students, this will be the first time entering a classroom since they were in kindergarten!
As we begin this transition, the emotional health and safety of the students will be a top priority.
My Project
Our class uses Expo markers several times a day. However, our love for our whiteboards has left our markers almost fully dried up! The common "chisel" tip found on markers can be harmful to developing writers' handwriting. Therefore, a marker that more closely resembles a pencil will help us tremendously. We have also used up our art markers quickly, as students adore creating art! Many of our classroom markers went home with students who did not have art supplies for homework. If you are able, a donation towards classroom markers will make a big difference for students!
