My Project

My students have inspiring stories. In this lesson, we will explore the ideas of both self and self in society. Studying the sculptures of Mark Jenkins who creates visual narratives with sculptures made from packing tape, clothing, and props is the first step. We will learn how he inserts his work into the urban landscape. This will serve as a springboard for his audience to interpret. I am challenged to create lessons my students will actually participate in. My hope is that this project, which will be divided into group projects, will increase class participation. Mark Jenkins subject matter is both beautiful and thought-provoking. My intent is to have students translate a narrative into their own figure and insert it into the environment of our school. I hope to touch upon the ideas of “personal story” or “visual storytelling” with this project. Cause and effect relationships and even the nature of the plot will all play key roles as well when we critique the placement of the figures and ask our viewers will interpret them.
