My Students

I teach a diverse group of artistic students at a Title I visual and performing arts school in downtown Los Angeles. Students come from all over the city to our public high school to receive a top-notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual arts or theater) and go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country.

I am always looking for ways to motivate my students with innovative and exciting learning opportunities.

My Project

We are trying to encourage more reading across our campus to support college-readiness and improve our students' ability to read and interpret informational text. With March being Reading Month across the country, what a perfect time to set up an event at our school! March Madness Bingo will be a game played campus wide to encourage students to read and demonstrate their learning of various online articles. We will track students' progress and at the end of the month prizes will be awarded to participants who have read a certain number of articles. We would love to be able to give each participant who meets the requirement a Starbucks gift card as an incentive. We are right down the street from a Starbucks and when I polled my homeroom students, Starbucks was the top incentive they suggested to motivate students. I really appreciate all of the donations and support to encourage life-long readers on our campus. Thank you!
