I have two half day preschool classes of three, four, and five year olds. AM has named their class 'The Pretty Heart Class' and my PM class has named themselves 'The Squarely Cat Class'. Both classes love Pete the Cat. We have pet worms that they take care of and will soon be getting hermit crabs that will also be their responsibility.
My school is in a low-income area and all of my students are on free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
They love coming to school and all have loving and caring families that are extremely involved in the classroom. They are grateful for the positive experience their students are having for their first time in school.
My Project
Before the winter break I put out some cove moldings that I bought and marbles. The students have been creating ramps for the marbles to go down. They lean the first ramp up against a table and add cove moulding to make it go to the other side of the room! My students have been trying to make their ramp turn but has proven to be extra difficult. The marbles do not have enough momentum when they get to the turn. We have been using all of our blocks and chairs to help build it up to give the marbles more momentum but these things are not very sturdy. If my kids had access to bigger blocks I believe it would make it easier to build higher. I would love to have the mirror while the students are building so that they can see their work from a different perspective.
