Many Must Haves Students Need but Don't Have

My students need some of the basic essentials many of us take for granted such as pencils and erasers. They also need a pencil sharpener and two novels.

My Students

My students are such eager learners; however, they come from low income households. Many of my students do good just to make it to school. Many of our students are intrinsically motivated and they want a better education; however, we also have students that need that extra encouragement to want to see themselves grow. Our school is a Title I school that is growing throughout the community daily. Our goal is to have more parental involvement as we believe it will only help make the school a success.

My Project

Donations to this project will start my students off with the bare essentials needed for the first day of school. We send our school supply requests to each child, but so many do not bring a thing. It is impossible to teach math with no pencil or eraser. I would like that to be one worry they don't even think about. I am requesting pencils, erasers, and a pencil sharpener to limit this worry! The two books I requested have meaning. One is a great book to read to the class on the first day of school because it is about an "idea" and what one can do with just an idea. It shows a child that their idea could be something much larger than just an "idea" in their mind. The second book is a great book to read to the class as a whole before Christmas break and take an AR test on. Our school library does not carry this one.
