Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school in East New York. My students are special needs students with disabilities such as speech and language, Emotional Disturbance, ADHD, Learning Disabled and Autism. Most of them are from Hispanic and/or African American backgrounds. They come from single-family homes, non-English speaking parents and have a low social economic status. All of these factors, are known to affect education drastically. Despite all the hardships my students may face when out of the classroom, they still come to school with a smile on their face, ready to learn, every single day.

My Project

I am requesting various materials to help my students learn all about caring for animals. The animal pet-vet center will allow my students to pretend to be a vet taking care of a sick dog. The guide dog will teach my students that animals also help us. The feed the animals game will allow my students to pretend to feed different kinds of animals. The pet grooming center will show my students that pets need showers and grooming. With the read along books my students will learn all about animals. The non-fiction books will give them real animal FACTS and the fiction books will allow them to use their IMAGINATION on how to play with, care for and treat animals.

Animals need love as much as humans do!

I believe it is important to educate tomorrows stars on how to care for and look after animals. My students would love the opportunity to learn about animals. Many of them want to have a dog as a pet but their families can't afford to take care of one. By donating to this project my students will be able to learn about taking care of animals. These materials will also show my students how to treat animals with compassion. I hope to create love and compassion for all animals through this project and hopefully inspire some of my students to become a veterinarian one day. This project will help my students understand how important animals are and how much they need us!
