Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For the second year in a row, I will be having the privilege of re-teaching students. Many of my former third graders will be joining my class as fifth graders in the fall. Given the dramatic world events, they had a unique end to their fourth grade year.

As a result, we are spending the first half of our school year apart and need to get creative with our resources.

I am at a Title 1 school in East Las Vegas were many of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch. As a result, many of the math and STEAM materials we have in the classroom need to be repurchased to create at home learning kits. I am creating this project to offset the cost of distance learning for families.

My Project

My students and I will be spending the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year apart. As a result, many of the materials we use in the classroom are not readily available for home use. Many of my students' families have been negatively impacted by the pandemic due to high tourism and hospitality industries in Las Vegas, so asking families to supplement is not an option.

I am requesting materials to create at home math and STEAM bins to make distance learning feel more normal.

I am requesting wet erase markers, boards for coordinate grids, and number lines for geometry and fraction standards. I am requesting red and yellow counters to make arrays for the distributive property and cubes for representing volume. I am requesting tongue depressors, scissors, and tape for STEAM projects. I am requesting regular and multi-sided dice as well as decks of cards to practice multiplication facts. These materials will be separated into 36 bags to be safely delivered to my students.
