Manipulatives for Vocational Success

My students need objects/fidgets/items to help with sensory regulation, math manipulatives, and functional work tasks to help with fine motor and functional skills. These include a classroom mailbox, Snap Circuits, School Start Money Kit, headphones, and pegboards.

My Students

ALWAYS CHANGING. My students are constantly on the go, moving around, and learning through hands-on activities. Every day brings something different!

My students are learning the functional skills needed to become as independent as possible once they leave high school.

They are a group of students who are in special education and are striving to be able to function independently in the community, at jobs, and living on their own once they leave high school. They are the most amazing students and work hard when they have access to the materials they need and obtain experiences they might not get when they are at home. Our school has 97% free and reduced lunch and we have many students who are homeless and/or highly mobile.

My Project

Students benefit from using headphones to block noise or to have noise (music) that helps them focus on the task at hand. The snap circuits, peg boards, food kit, etc. will be used in a career exploration and daily living class to work on functional skills and work tasks that they will encounter when they finish high school. The money manipulative's will be used in math class for hands-on activities involving money to help them visualize, feel, and generalize the concepts of money. The sensory items will be used for students who like to move around, have objects in their hands, and to help them focus on the task at hand while having sensory regulation.

The students will be excited to try out the new activities, practice their money skills, and feel more independent as they generalize the skills across multiple settings.

ALL of these items will be beneficial to my students for hands-on activities and creating opportunities to enhance their functional skills to become successful in life.
