Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are inquisitive, creative and curious. In math, our tiniest mathematicians are learning to count, about the numbers around them and to make connections. The hands-on ten frames and stamps will help their math come alive! Students will use the counting bears to have fun manipulating numbers & will use beads to make their very own number strings to take home and use in the classroom with colorful animals. These resources will be used in daily math instruction & give students a sense of ownership in their learning. Each morning, students will start with whole class number games....The teacher & student will roll the jumbo dice and students can build the number rolled using their animal bead string, teddy bear counters or colored in their ten frame. A number will flash on the screen, students will do a freeze dance to that number and then quickly build the number on their desk using manipulatives.

Math is so much more than just finding an answer--it's about collaborating with our fellow mathematicians, making our thinking visible and sharing our thoughts.

In order to be successful, we need to see what we are learning.

So many children are growing up and saying "I'm not a math person" because they struggled to make sense of their learning at a young age. To combat this, we want to develop a sense of love and engagement in mathematics so our students grow up LOVING math and fulfill their potential as engineers, mathematicians, scientists, artists and anything else they can imagine.
