My Students

Kindergarten is so much fun. Our students learn in many different ways using all of our senses and multiple intelligences. We use a wide range of techniques to help all the students succeed no matter what their level. Our students attend a Title I school. Most of the students come from families of low socioeconomic status, with over 70% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our state. Our school is a caring community of successful learners, which can be seen through collaborative, student project-based learning in and out of the classroom. Kindergartners in our classes love to work with hands-on materials and have many different opportunities to practice a skill before it is mastered.

My Project

This project will expand and enrich our math centers. These materials will be used in a hands-on approach to math. They will be able to explore, solve, discover, and work independently on their math skills. They will learn how to connect math to their world and be given the opportunity to make it more concrete. It is much more valuable to be able to sort - using the sorting pies, count - using the unifix cubes and 10 frames, and classify by actually working with the manipulatives instead of just looking at a picture. Doing hands-on math also builds their problem-solving skills by coming up with multiple solutions to a problem. Your generous donations will give my class several math manipulatives to allow the students to learn in fun and interactive centers, making learning exciting! Through these centers the students who are struggling will be motivated to learn through games, pushing them to be on grade level, while enriching the math education of the students that are on or above grade level.

Children can be mathematicians!

They can be lifelong problem solvers and think outside of the box! These math center activities and manipulatives will make their connection to math add up!
