Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Next school year I will be teaching kindergarten. I haven't met my students yet, but I know they are going to need a lot of hands-on materials. A kindergarten student has to learn so much, especially if it is their first year in a school setting.

Kindergarteners are expected to learn the alphabet, numbers, shapes, colors, days of the week, months of the year, and practice their fine (and gross) motor skills.

A five and six year old must learn to write uppercase and lowercase letters, develop number sense, and know letter sounds to begin to read books. It really is the foundation for the rest of their educational experience.

Having manipulatives where they can practice a skill independently will help grow their brain and let me work with a small group. Everyone learns differently so it is important to provide kinesthetic learners with materials they can manipulate. Children love using their hands so I also believe the manipulatives will encourage my kinders to enjoy school and look forward to first grade.
