My Project

I teach Jr. 1st grade in a rural Title I school. My classroom is a transitional classroom between Kindergarten and 1st grade. My classroom supports 15 developmentally young students that have never had a “normal” school experience in light of Covid-19. My classroom is able to provide students with a year of experience and the gift of time to mature. My classroom is unique because I have the opportunity to provide my students with activities that will allow them to master their Kindergarten skills and to prepare them to be a successful first grader next year. My students are a creative and curious group of five and six year olds that are excited and eager to learn! Covid-19 has directly impacted each and every student in my classroom in some way or another over the past three years. They have never experienced a “normal” school year without some aspect of Covid-19, whether it be missed direct instruction, virtual learning, masking, quarantining or sickness. To help my students in light of Covid-19, I could use the various art supplies and manipulatives to make up for lost learning of valuable hands-on critical thinking and cooperative learning experiences. I will use the storage containers to neatly organize my classroom centers and to make them readily available for use. When young learners are given hands-on learning opportunities they are more engaged and own their overall learning experience.

The art supplies, manipulatives and center storage bins will aide to provide meaningful hands-on activities that get students engaged in their own learning.
