My Students

This is my 6th year teaching special education and it is a passion of mine. I am privileged to begin a new journey this school year . I teach special education students in grades K5-6. They have a wide range of abilities and needs. We are a very diverse and accepting community-oriented school. Our school focuses on STEAM and being energy efficient. This is sometimes difficult for special education students and it is important to accommodate their needs in every way to help them be successful.

It is my job to make sure that my students feel safe, loved, valued, and accepted while they are in my classroom.

I am very excited to work with a new group of students and families and look forward to watching them grow and being a part of the process.

My Project

I work with an amazing group of kiddos that are struggling readers. These materials will make reading fun and engaging. All students want to read but it can be difficult for some.

For the students I serve who receive special education services, manipulatives and games make such a difference in the way that they learn.

These items would help build self-confidence as my students learn to read and help them enjoy reading even more! Often times it is difficult for students to track what they are reading in a book. A highlighted reading guide helps to build fluency for struggling readers as they do not get lost on the page they are reading. For other students, the ability to use their finger to trace sandpaper letters can assist them in mastering the way to properly form letters, which then translates to being able to write these letters independently. The opportunity to match upper and lower case letters on popsicle sticks makes this task more fun!

I can't wait to see my students experience success in reading, some for the very first time!
