My Students

In a world of growing technology, sometimes old methods can still be a great start! Using tablets, laptops, and other high tech tools seems to be a great way to experience math, but I am excited to introduce my students to the Rekenrek!

I have a classroom of 20 first graders that come from homes of high poverty.

My school is on a universal free breakfast and lunch program. Our school currently has no PTO, which was able to provide us with a small amount of funds to purchase school items. However, with no PTO, there is no extra money. My students are excited to begin math workshop and get their hands on math manipulatives! A lot of my games are engaging yet homemade with cardstock and flimsy pieces. I would love to provide them with a quality tool to help build a strong foundation in number sense that will be used the entire year!

My Project

During math workshop, we will be able to use the Rekenrek to explore numbers - counting, adding, subtracting, place value, and the list continues! They will each have their own board and will be able to use it in whole group, small group, or independently. It is also small enough to be portable; they can carry it with them wherever!

Because of donors like you, my students will understand that there are generous people from all over.

This project will help me kick-start my letter writing unit because they will be eager to share their thankfulness with you, the donors!
