Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Who am I?" "How do I fit into the world?" "What matters to me?" "How does my past make me who I am today?" "What do I want to do?" These challenging questions are only a few that my students are asking themselves as they embark on their path of self-discovery. What I LOVE about 7th Graders is their desperate need to figure out Who They Are. I want to capture that innate desire and harness it to use as educational fodder. My students will write stories about their childhood and families, persuasive essays about their beliefs, as well as responses to books we have read. My vision is for my students to take these essays and ideas and use them to create short movies and podcasts, manifesting their identities into tangible projects that are easily shared and experienced. Harvest Middle School is lucky to have so many passionate, creative teachers who wish to bring the students' lives into the classroom, making learning fun and keeping the kids intrinsically motivated. This is only our third year of existence, however, so we lack the resources of more established schools. My materials budget is only $150 for the YEAR for my class of 130 students. I am asking for podcast materials to help get us started. I envision my 7th graders creating "This American Life"-type recordings to illustrate their own lives, past, present and future. I am absolutely so THRILLED with this idea! The students will buy into it! Their parents and can enjoy it! They will take pride in their work, knowing that they started and completed a project, from concept to publication!
