This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our middle school, Manga is king of the reading list! I teach disadvantaged Emergent Bilingual students in a very small Title I school. Most of my students are struggling readers at different English language reading levels ranging from 1st grade to 5th. Mind you those are their levels in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. The key to further developing their reading is to keep them interested in reading to begin with, and this is where these super popular manga titles come in to play! Middle schoolers cannot resist the urge to read major titles like One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, and Naruto.

Getting them to willingly crack open a book and use their burgeoning reading skills at such an accessible reading level will prove vital to keeping them reading.

As a bonus, this will go a long way to inspiring them to become life-long readers and promote their curiosity about other world cultures. Your donation will go a VERY long way to help put these books in their hands and in their hearts!
