Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are predominantly recently-arrived immigrants who will need significant support with understanding and managing their emotions. They have been through challenges that are scary for anyone, let alone small children. These items can support them with understanding that what has happened to them is not an indication of what the rest of their lives will be.

Through play-therapy and bibliotherapy, students will learn to cope with their emotions and manage their behaviors effectively.

They will be able to work individually and in groups during counseling sessions. My students will be so excited to learn about themselves and their peers in fun ways. Some of my students struggle with sensory issues, so the soft seats would provide an alternative seating arrangement for those who need it.

The board games can support my students' cognitive development. Playing board games helps children develop logic and reasoning skills, social and self awareness, and improve critical thinking. Students face many challenges throughout their developmental stages, often reading a book that they can relate to or see themselves in, helps them to understand and learn from their circumstances. The books that I have listed here can help students understand different emotions such as anxiety and fear and helps them find healthy ways to manage those emotions and cope.
