I teach in a particular education preschool in a public elementary school. My students are 2-5 years olds and have a wide range of abilities. Our school is a Title I school, and the majority of my students come from low-income homes. More than half of my students have disabilities, including developmental delays, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and anxiety disorders. Because my students' needs are diverse, differentiation and a wide range of age-appropriate materials are critical to their success.
Despite all of the challenges they face each day, my students are the sweetest children in the world, and they deserve the very best!
I want to provide a quality learning environment and help them develop the essential skills they will need for kindergarten. This means addressing all domains of their development: cognitive, physical, social-emotional, adaptive, and communication. Having a variety of materials to manage each part, and keeping children engaged while learning can be expensive. That is why I need your help!
My Project
I currently use Conscious Discipline in my classroom to teach social skills. The addition of these materials would really help further my students' social and emotional development. The active calming kit provides opportunities to channel energy in a positive way, rather than acting out in anger. It includes different physical activities and breathing exercises to help children calm their bodies.
Conscious Discipline supports children AND adults in developing social/emotional skills and self-regulation.
The other items in this project will engage my students in activities such as the Brain Smart Choice Cube which teaches positive choices. The greeting apron will bring a novel change to our current morning greetings. Conscious Discipline is an amazing program that truly supports social emotional growth. These curriculum supports would be an amazing addition to our classroom.
