My Students

Our students are special because they are eager to learn, they are always looking at how they can take learning to the next level, and they are always engaged in the learning process.

The students come into the classroom on a daily basis and they are eager to engage in the many different learning opportunities that the teachers provide for them.

Our students love literacy activities and constantly ask us to read them stories. They are beginning to retell stories and make up their own story lines. The staff at our school is always looking for ways to promote learning by providing a comfortable, safe environment for our students.

The children that attend our program are primarily from low income families and need the extra support. The students that attend our program will eventually filter into the schools in the surrounding neighborhoods which they live in and will be prepared to take the next step in their education.

My Project

The materials for this project will used be to provide a comfy, warm, inviting sitting space for reading books just like snuggling up on a sofa at home with your family. Our young students will feel as if they are comfortable and relaxed in a cozy area where they can pick up a book and let their imagination take them away. Having a soft home-like environment with a soft chair and sofa to grab a book and share it with a friend will have an impact on their literacy skills because they will be drawn into the reading area. Knowing there is something soft and relaxing to sit on will give the reading area a feeling of home. This will be a loving, caring, and nurturing area in our room that will be available to promote young readers into our school community.
