My Students

Remember when you heard the words, "Sound it out"? It is not always the easiest thing to do. Please help my students by providing them with hands on visuals for word building. Help them become more confident and help them become better readers and writers.

I teach kindergarten in a wonderful, diverse community.

My school is a title 1 school and most of our students have free or reduced lunch. Some of our students have help at home and others do not. So, we have a wide range of needs to meet. Despite our needs, I have always had very high expectations for them and each year they always do their very best to make me proud and each year they always do.

My Project

I plan to use these resources during our small group reading and writing time. I will have the students build words using the magnetic letters and the magnetic boards. I can also have them write the words that they are creating on the back of the boards. There are so many ways to differentiate with these materials, the possibilities are endless. In my experience, I have found that allowing the students to manipulate letters helps them to visualize the whole "sounding out" process. The word stretchers are another great manipulative for them to use during small group. With these supplies my students will become better word "wizards."

Kindergarten is the foundation of most children's learning.

A firm foundation in reading and writing is very important for long term success. By donating to my project you are strengthening their foundations and providing them more hands on learning in an area of great difficulty for some students.
