My Students

I teach at a Chinese and English dual language immersion K-8 public school in Houston. I am a Chinese teacher and share two classes of 22 students with my English partner teacher. Students in our school spend half day learning subjects in Chinese and half day in English. We are going to kick off the new school year remotely! An adventure is waiting in front of my students and me. There is a lot unknown and uncertainty. However, I believe this is also the best timing to make the most of technology in education.

To me the first and foremost challenge for teaching remotely is lack of tech equipment.

We have switched to remote learning since March. It was hard for first grade kiddos, especially for young foreign language learners, to learn by just looking at slides and hearing teacher's voice. They need to see real live demonstration.

My Project

Young learners learn best by watching demonstration and doing step by step with teachers. When teaching 1st graders virtually at home, the top one challenges are not able to write freely on the slides and not able to model art work, graphic organizers, writing sentences etc. and break them into steps with kids.

With the supported tech equipment, I will be able to set up a live online teaching sessions much more like we do in the classroom.

iPad will be used as an extended monitor, showing slides. Apple Pencil will make writing on tablet more neatly and precisely. With the tablet stand, iPad can also turn into a doc camera.
