Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school mathematics classroom is a place where students are encouraged to learn through discovery. Students are engaged in hands-on learning opportunities where they manipulate the concepts being taught to them so they can take ownership of their learning experience.

Students in my classroom face a lot of challenges.

Many of them are English Language Learners who are attempting to learn challenging math concepts while still trying to master a new language. Others have limited access to technology at home and depend on the school to provide them with tablets for internet access. Many of them qualify for free and reduced-price lunch.

It is my belief that students should be engaged in a learning experience that is both challenging and fun so they can be equipped with the skills they need for tomorrow while having fun today!

My Project

Many of my sixth grade students’ families have opted to keep them at home and remain learning remotely due to the pandemic. Having only one monitor for my classroom computer makes it difficult for me to see all of their faces while presenting our lesson on Zoom. A second monitor will make it possible to split my screen and view all of my students at once while still being able to deliver a quality lesson online. Being able to see all of my students, and not just a few at a time, will help make better connections with them in the virtual classroom setting.
