Making Their Mark in Spanish

My students need markers to get writing and keep writing. Dry-erase allows for an easy and fun way to practice writing and self-editing.

My Students

My students are like middle schoolers in any other public city school. They are young enough to be sensitive, and old enough to be bold and assertive. We are a diverse population with lots of talents and interests. My class is not only focused on developing language skills, but also social and emotional skills. They enjoy a challenge with proper supports. Any contribution will go towards developing their unique skills and talents. My students look forward to graciously accepting your generosity and putting it to use in the classroom ASAP.

My Project

Students practice 4 language skills in Spanish class every day: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Dry-erase markers are used to write sentences, conjugate verbs, edit peer work, brainstorm vocabulary, write what they hear, and draw the meaning of what they read. Sometimes markers are used for doodling too.

Students find the markers fun and less intimidating.

Often, I find that putting pen or pencil to paper feels final for many students. It feels formal and stigmatized. Markers don't. Markers are informal and interesting. Being able to quickly correct your mistakes takes away fear of doing it wrong.

Lastly, markers are more environmentally friendly since we aren't wasting paper and pencils.
