My Project

I am a veteran teacher of 33 years. I take pride in getting my students excited about reading and writing. I am always looking for new ways to encourage and engage my students daily in my classroom.

I teach in a low-income school in Indiana.

My students are very diverse. In addition to Caucasian and African American students, I have many Hispanic and Burmese students who are learning the English language. It is my goal to expand their vocabulary and allow them to become comfortable with the English language.

The "Science of Reading" refers to a large body of research from various fields that explains how people learn to read, identifying the key skills involved and providing evidence-based practices for effective reading instruction. This requires students to engage with literature on a deeper level than ever before. Students are expected to connect to literature and critically write about many different genres. The various sets of books I have asked for will provide my students with a text that they will enjoy and that will connect to our CLKA units on the Renaissance and Reformation.

Helping my students become better readers and develop a love for reading is very important to me.
