My Students

When you were a student, was grammar your favorite subject? Probably not! It is, however, important to encourage my students to become powerful writers. It is my goal to make learning the fundamentals of grammar FUN!

My students are an energetic group who love to laugh, grow, and learn.

Their wisdom, courage, and energy amazes and inspires me on a daily basis. Writing is my absolute favorite subject to teach and I am often amazed by the creative and humorous stories that my students write. It is my goal to teach them to love writing and to be confident in their ability to write for an audience. Mastering conventions and the fundamentals of grammar will help them be successful in this.

My Project

My students need fifteen picture books including Dear Deer: A Book of Homophones, How Much Can a Bare Bear Bear? What are Homophones and Homonyms? and Punctuation Takes a Vacation, focusing on the fundamentals of grammar. I have chosen this set of picture books that focuses on the fundamentals of grammar through silly stories and rhymes that will make students laugh. I will use these books to guide instruction then transfer them to the writing center for my students to use and refer to on a daily basis. Picture books can be really engaging and the fun stories in the texts that I have chosen will stay with my students, reminding them of the skills we study while reading each book.

By supporting this project, you are helping my students learn the grammar skills they need to become better writers, better readers, and better speakers.

These are skills that will help them be successful in school this year, but also in years to come - both in the classroom and out. The big bonus is that this project will allow them to master these skills in a fun, lighthearted way.
