Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Managing student behavior is a lot easier when students have positive relationships with each other and a strong identity as a class. In the beginning weeks of school, we do a lot of activities to create this identity and build these relationships. They spend a lot of time doing team tasks, both academic and social, and have opportunities to name and celebrate their team, compete with other teams, and get feedback and rewards for excellent teamwork.

Instead of just choosing a theme to decorate my room, my class decorates their own classroom with evidence of their identities and relationships- self portraits, team flags, co-created rules posters, and a classroom vision statement.

The construction paper and pens will be used during team tasks and become this evidence of our class culture. The colorful cry erase markers and gel pens will allow individual group members to use different colors on team tasks for accountability, and the play doh will be used as a reward for teams who consistently embody positive peer relationships.
