This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

After teaching ESL abroad for the past 7 years, immigrating to the United States, and graduating with a California teaching credential, I am *finally* ready to welcome my first class of 19 students on American soil!

Take a peek inside our 4 walls and you will find the most richly diverse space where students are speaking multiple languages with multiple abilities across many races and ethnicities - all sharing one common goal - the pursuit of knowledge.

Our school is a K-5, Title I, public school, with a population of over 900 students with our entire school qualifying for the free breakfast and lunch program in a rural setting. With full bellies and eager minds, the students are ready to learn, engage, play, and grow. I am reaching out to all of you for help to ensure we have the right tools and supplies to have a successful year!

My Project

STEM education plays a critical role in preparing our students for the future and their roles in our economy. Through hands-on STEM activities, students are engaging in experiences in which they learn from and with other people, and because of that, are encouraged to think critically, innovatively, and creatively.

With the inspiration from the IF/THEN ambassadors like Aisha Lawrey who discuss the successes of other minority women in the STEM fields, my 2nd-grade students will be able to imagine themselves working for organizations like NASA someday.

In the video, Mission Unstoppable: Mission to Mars, engineer, Diana Trujillo, discusses her journey as a non-English speaking immigrant and that will resonate so much with my students! We will listen to her story as we explore STEM materials in our classroom.

I want my students to use their hands and explore the field of engineering; not just reading about it! Please help give my students the opportunity to design and build cities, cars, houses, and so much more with the various building blocks, I’ve requested! Thank you!
