Help me give my students 2 triple beam balances and a class set of graduated cylinders and beakers. These essentials are desperately needed for students to conduct scientific experiments and investigations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of middle school students enter their science classroom with an ingrained sense of curiosity about the natural world. Students love learning about various scientific phenomena as well as engaging in laboratory activities and conducting investigations. They are constantly asking questions and proposing topics for investigation.

My goal is to teach students how to think, explore, and understand this world like a scientist.

My kids are middle school students at a K-8 school located in a large urban area of Connecticut. The families that make up our school are good, hardworking people who want their children to be successful. They deserve a high quality educational experience for their children.

The reality is that our school is over 60 years old and severely lacking in supplies and modern infrastructure. Budget cuts and funding shortages have drastically reduced available money for science materials and equipment.

My Project

These materials will allow my students to perform all manner of scientific investigations. Triple beam balances, graduated cylinders, and beakers are among the most basic of lab supplies and allow students to measure and collect a variety of quantitative data.

Currently, there are no functioning laboratory classrooms in our school and our scant lab supplies are shared among three grade levels.

Such heavy usage increases stress on the equipment, causing it to break or wear out more quickly. This extreme lack of resources has a significant impact on the range of opportunities that I am able to provide for my classes in terms of lab activities and investigations.

I wish to replenish our lab supplies and provide an authentic science laboratory experience so students learn how to effectively operate lab equipment while conducting experiments.
