This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My amazing dual language scholars arrive at my classroom eager to learn about science in both English and Spanish. The classes I teach are participating in an accelerated program in which they can get high school credit for classes they take in middle school. The New York State Living Environment Regents is one of the courses they are taking this year. This means they have to work diligently in order to complete this goal. There are many challenging concepts they will learn this year which will prepare them not only for the exam but for high school and beyond. My eighth-grade scholars began middle school as sixth graders, right in the middle of the pandemic, they have persevered and have demonstrated resilience through difficult times. My goal is to make this year fun, exciting, and memorable as they move on to high school.

The materials for this project will help foster a love of learning and will increase their academic achievements.

The quiz buzzer system will be used to engage all students as they review science concepts. This will make learning fun as well as develop their team working skills. Students in my class work in collaborative groups of four in order to complete science labs. The wireless microphone and speaker will ensure that all students' voices are heard as they collaborate and share ideas with their classmates. The spinner and the basketball hoop will be used to select teams to present and earn points. The mobile whiteboard and magnetic notebook paper will allow me to communicate the learning objectives and important information on a daily basis with my students. Lastly, the timer will be used so that students can manage their time and take charge of their learning as they complete tasks.
