My Project

My students are apart of a generation that is able to quickly learn and view things via the internet. As you know, they literally have the world at their fingertips. And, while this gives them tremendous advantages as a generation, it cannot take the place of meaningful kinesthetic learning opportunities.

A well rounded science class embeds literacy, math, real world connections and hands on experiences while learning.

It is my dream to be able to teach these things simultaneously during a lesson. For instance, the microscopes can help my students practice creating and viewing slides- hands on. Then, they can create, label and explain visual representations of their observations - literacy. They can even read about advancements in science that have been made by using a microscope- real world connection. Students could even go so far as to compare measurements on a microscopic scale to life size -math.

The depth at which students can learn any particular topic are enhanced with the materials they have to learn from are enhanced. Additionally, our recent influx of non English speaking students could also benefit tremendously from being able to engage in more hands on learning experiences;

I am building my inventory of science equipment at my school. I literally was given a lab with zero supplies and, since I teach 3 different disciplines of science, the materials I need range. DonorsChoose has helped my acquire some foundational items used to teach science, but I am in need of more. I hope you choose to donate to my classroom and give students the experiences they deserve.
