My Project

In my AP Literature class, my students are working on a poet study in which they read an entire collection by a poet of their choice in small book club groups. As they read, they research the poet and the context in which the poems were written, they explore the themes of the work, and they respond creatively by creating their own poetry. This culminates in students creating a living poetry museum for National Poetry Month that students across the school can enjoy!

My students know that poetry itself is a living thing, and they want to learn from living poets.

We spent our first semester time with poetry studying iconic poetry movements of the past -- now, we are exploring and celebrating the ways in which poets are speaking to our current zeitgeist. Citizen Illegal was our most popular title this year, and we need more copies to meet the interest! This volume reflects student identities and will help them explore the intersections of art, history, and justice as they create their museum exhibits, and the trifold boards will provide the base of their projects.
