My students need a class set of the book "The Dot", and five copies of the accompanying narrated dvd, so we can celebrate "International Dot Day" as a school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
The students in my school are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities, despite the challenges that they face outside of the classroom. Our students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of immigrant families. Many of our students speak a language other than English at home.
Many of our students have already experienced adversity during their young lives, yet show up every day with positive attitudes—motivated to learn, kind to others, and accepting of differences.
Most of our students do not have regular access to regular technology at home, nor do they get to experience many learning opportunities outside of school. The students in my school represent a range of learning styles and reading abilities. Many of our students are reading significantly below grade level, which leads to frustration and low motivation to read. Interactive read-alouds are an excellent way to model strong reading and promote high-level discussions among students, especially our English Language Learners.
My Project
"The Dot," a beautiful picture book by Peter Reynolds, has become the focus of an international celebration of "Creativity, Courage and Collaboration!" called International Dot Day (www.thedotclub.org). Celebrated in September, Dot Day is an opportunity for millions of people around the world to connect and celebrate uniqueness and creative inspiration.
The message of "The Dot" is that everyone can "make their mark" in their own way, and that together we can make the world a better place.
The book lends itself to reflections and discussions about identify and individuality, as well as engaging and creative projects.
I have celebrated Dot Day with my students for the past few years, and now I would like to bring the celebration to my whole school. Every classroom will have a copy of the book, and the dvds with the narrated video version will be available for students and teachers. Every class will read the book and participate in activities to celebrate our collective uniqueness and unite the school in a celebration of individuality. We will "connect the dots" with others around the world via Twitter and Skype, to learn how others are celebrating.
