My Students

My students strive to overcome their past math difficulties and fears to become successful "mathletes"!

My students attend a public high school with an International Baccalaureate program that challenges them.

They come from a variety of racial, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds, with some being more behind academically than others. However, they excel when faced with the academic rigor of the program.

My Project

For math teachers, it is challenging to get past the phobias, the lack of self-confidence, and the strong dislike for math. With clear instruction and note-taking, as well as immediate practice and feedback, most students come to realize that they are indeed capable of doing well in a math class. Part of that success comes with making notes and examples clear to students through the Cornell note-taking system. With the wireless USB to VGA connection, I would be able to walk around the room with my tablet PC while taking notes and giving examples. Students would see more clearly how I would take notes in the Cornell notes format, and I would be able to save these notes at the end of class to post them to our class's online Blackboard site. They would be available to students for comparison or for absent students. Notes would no longer be erased at the end of class and lost forever. This product would also help with classroom management as well as student engagement during the lesson.

The wireless USB to VGA connection will help bring the note-taking and direct instruction portion of class into the 21st century.

It will allow students see how to take meaningful notes, a skill that will serve them well in the rest of high school as well as throughout college.
