My Students

I teach pre-k through fifth grade music. The school I teach at is very diverse with cultures from all over the world. The students embrace one another with acceptance and an appreciation for each others culture. Students are learning that coming from various backgrounds enhances their school environment.

My Project

I would like to incorporate books into my music lessons to help support reading strategies that the classroom teacher is utilizing with the students. Books bring the world of endless possibilities to students. I will use the books to foster students' creativity. Books can lay the foundation for the students to come up with their own way of using musical expression. Students can use rhythm, harmony, expressive qualities, and movement to enhance and interpret a different way of interacting with a story. By working with the book in a musical sense, the students reading and comprehension skills will be strengthened.
