My Project

My students are very special, talented, and enthusiastic individuals. Because I am the music teacher, I see them from year to year. This allows us the amazing opportunity to build a foundation of music knowledge and then grow in our skills each year. My students truly are the reason I come to school each day. They are eager to learn and can’t wait to come to class each week.

These particular materials requested will make a huge difference in my music room.

This will be a project that is fun! Students are always asking to play instruments and we do not have drum sets. This will create excitement in the students which will cause them to want to learn the methods for composing their own rhythmic pieces. Students will also be excited because for so long, due to Covid, they weren’t allowed to play the instruments in the music room because sanitizing was so difficult. They missed this part of their music education a great deal. Students will feel accomplished in their end project. This is HUGE because not all students enjoy the singing aspect of music. My job as a teacher is to find some aspect of music education that they can succeed in. Whether it’s singing, theory, composing, playing an instrument, etc. There is something that they can be good at and be proud of.

Students will work in small groups to compose many different rhythm patterns. They will play their patterns and record them. Then they will perform the patterns for the class. To expand on this, students will also create rhythm poems to go along with the beat patterns and perform this for the class also.

This project will help students understand note values better, compose music within measures, and play written music.
