My Students

Can you imagine being in math class and not understanding the steps needed to solve a problem? It's like you understand a few things, but need an extra push to put it all together? Well, this is what my students are experiencing and I've figured out a way to make it all better!

My students are pure joy!

They are resilient in that they do not allow their learning curves to impact their spirits and desire to learn! Each day I am guaranteed a good laugh, lots of love, and loads of learning. I'd like to keep it up by continuing to enhance their learning, especially with a tricky subject like math! We are located in the nation's capital, but our area is limited to the amount of resources that can be acquired outside of the classroom. So when my students are in school, I want them to maximize every single learning resource available! This is their first year as middle schoolers and with having to learn a new building, new schedule and locker combinations, why not make things a bit easier to learn in the classrooms.

My Project

The math dictionaries are jewels within itself! With this resource, students have ongoing support with math skills that are presented. They can use the definitions provided in the dictionaries to put in their journals for use as a reference. Additionally, they can use the examples provided to answer math problems on classwork, homework, and tests. The geoboards can be used during centers time or independent practice to provide information to students in a more tactile way. They can also have ongoing practice with creating and recognizing geometric shapes. I am mostly excited about the curriculum books because it allows my students to work on multiple levels. Sure, they are all beginning middle school for the first time. However, with students coming in on various learning levels, I want to be sure to address all of their needs in the classroom. Finally, we could use the base ten blocks, flats, and rods for learning more about place value!

Math manipulatives will truly improve our classroom experience!

Students will have a better understanding of how to view fractions, tell time, graph plots, and comprehend place value. It's one thing to hear a teacher explain concepts, but to be able to visually create these concepts and have a better understanding of its application is so much better!
