My Students

My school has a student population of 1280 with over 94% of the students on Free or Reduced Lunch. Our student population comes from homes of very diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

By virtue of their academy selection my students have shown a commitment to preparing to compete in the global job market with emphasis in the use of technology.

My students applied to one of eight career academies at our school. AOIT students choose to pursue a program of study in Digital and Multimedia Design and/or Technology and Cybersecurity Support Services. Students in the academy interact with business and community leaders through classroom presentations, job shadows, mentorships, internships, and on the-job-training.

The students are committed to finishing their high school education earning their diploma along with their state vocational certification and multiple industry certifications. Their participation in internship experiences shows their readiness to be competitive and successful in the workplace.

I insist on challenging my students and they respond with determination and imagination. As a project-based learning enthusiast, I enjoy providing my students with opportunities to participate in many hands-on projects and work-based simulations engaging their minds, stimulating their critical thinking

My Project

The pandemic ushered in a new normal for everyone, especially for my students where many of them saw first-hand how difficult it was for their parents to make ends meat and keep the household afloat. Teaching financial literacy through entrepreneurship is more critical than ever because it will help my students build the skills to creatively solve complex problems.

A financially skilled student is more likely to make a decision that is wise and backed by financial principles.

My project will teach my students about financial literacy through entrepreneurship. My students will create home-based businesses focusing on healthy foods. They will also learn how to properly read income statements, balance sheets, and cash flows, which will enable them to be in a better position to make sound financial analyses. I know if my students find purpose in learning, they will be more engaged and will be more deeply connected to what they are learning in my class.
