My Students

Biology is not just a vocabulary course anymore. Now we teach inquiry, critical thinking, argument writing, and modeling. Modeling can be one of the most challenging things to bring to life in our studies. With a new, colorful, and creative way to model, students will become engaged in modeling.

My students are creative students with an art focus in high school Even though they may be musical, visual, or performing artists, they are great budding biologists as well.

They seek science knowledge in new ways and will benefit from the ability to use these neon markers in their studies.

My Project

Since the ability to design, refine, and explain models is heavily integrated in science, particularly biology, the neon Expo markers will provide a meaningful way for my students to express themselves in the modeling process. I think that they will be able to visualize some of the biology concepts (especially those at a cellular and molecular level) in exceptional ways using these washable and non-permanent markers. Having a class set of markers will allow the students to use the markers frequently to design experiments, reinforce concepts, and review for tests. They will light up very well against our black lab table tops.

It is my hope that I can make an impact on students by having them love biology as much as I do.

To do this, I must make it tangible to students at every opportunity. Many students are visual learners, and the materials provided in this project will let them visualize concepts that are otherwise difficult for many students. I cannot wait to see a difference in my students' engagement and content mastery.
