Help Ms. Thornton

My Students

Help bring some color to our classroom! We're trying to cover the walls in our gray and white room with artwork, but we're running out of supplies. Please help us get more paper, markers, and poster board to illustrate the connections we make while reading.

My students are quirky, fun, and creative!

They love to create works of art that illustrate what they've read, what they think about what we're reading, and just what's going on in the world around them. In our moderate-poverty school, most of my students are in the "lowest" level English class. Like many kids labeled as such, my students just haven't found what motivates them yet. Making art comes close.

My Project

Most of my students don't like school. And having to spend all day in a classroom with no windows, I can't say I blame them! They do love art and they love seeing the connections between art and reading. We've drawn symbols, movie posters for our favorite books, and a few pieces just for fun. These materials will help my students connect to English content in a way they already feel successful -- setting them up to achieve at the next level.

My classroom is a place where we ask -- and attempt to answer -- higher-level questions on a daily basis.

But it also has to be a place with some color on the walls! Please help us continue to use art to explore literature by giving my students the gift of these materials.
