My Project

This project aims to give a personalized experience to students who reported a low sense of belonging in the school. All students in the school will have the opportunity to create in the makerspace; however, the emphasis will begin with students who need a self-confidence boost. This project will directly impact student learning, as it encourages creative expression, facilitates hands-on learning, builds collaboration skills, and inspires personal narratives. Students will be invited to participate in "Maker Mornings" and "Crafternoons" hosted by the teacher librarian, Mrs. Epps.

Through this project, students will engage in hands-on exploratory activities to support mental well-being in a low-pressure environment.

Students will have the opportunity to be creative, as they use the Sizzix machine to create one-of-a-kind bookmarks to take with them. The colorful cardstock will be used as the blank template for the bookmarks. The blank hats, patches, and chenille letters will allow students to express themselves.

As they tinker and create with their hands, students will express themselves in a low-pressure environment, where they can relieve stress and anxiety.

Students will share and work together as they select materials for their bookmarks and trucker hats. Students will consider others' preferences for materials and demonstrate patience as they take turns waiting for materials.

Communication skills are enhanced through both verbal and non-verbal communication as they create.
