Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a STEAM magnet center and we provide integrated curriculum that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. Our school is a Title I school where all students qualify for free lunch and come from low-income families. Regardless of circumstances, my students are eager to learn and reach their academic goals. Funding has been limited these last years, and these STEAM resources will help our school provide learning experiences that would help our students comprehend big concepts & make learning them more effective. My students love engineering and having a STEAM resources readily available would allow our students daily opportunities to collaborate, design solutions and learn to work collaboratively.

My students are creative, enthusiastic learners that love learning about the sciences, enjoy solving challenging problems together and building innovative solutions using creative materials.

It starts with having the materials and resources readily available in the classroom. My students are kinesthetic learners and learn new concepts more efficiently when lessons and interactive and hands on.

My Project

These mathematics materials and resources will make a great difference in my classroom. I teach first grade and for many of the little ones learning mathematical skills and concepts at the concrete level, with visuals and hands-on materials is the first step to understanding. These materials with enhance and complement my teaching, by allowing students to practice concepts and skills taught with partners, in groups and independently. Giving students the ability to successfully apply their learned knowledge.

Many of my students are visual-kinesthetic learners & these mathematical hands-on resources with help make mathematical concepts and skills more comprehensible.

My plan is to use them to engage students in mathematical games that review big concepts and skills. I will also use them in math centers and during partner games. The Calendar alone with help me as an educator provide daily practice on big skills such as number sense (making numbers), place value, making ten etc.
