My Students

"The only way to LEARN the math is to DO the math," Paul Halmos tells us. When students are actively engaged in doing math and using mathematical language, they become mini-mathematicians!

Our school is one of the first in our area that includes students of all abilities in a single classroom.

Students who develop typically, students with special needs and students who are gifted, learn side-by-side, with each other and from each other. All of our students are resilient individuals that, despite their differences, make our school a welcoming community.

My Project

I envision mini MATHEMATICIANS as they use these new resources. Building math vocabulary as they manipulate and build numbers using the Unifix cubes. Students will learn to identify and construct Geometric shapes both individually and with partners. My students will participate in a new Math Literature portion of the day that includes listening to a math story and using manipulatives, dry erase boards, poster paper and games to fuel their learning experience. As the students use these various tools, math will become a fun educational experience.

With the addition of these materials to our math curriculum, students will be able to DO the math which will allow them to LEARN the math.

Students will have fun while becoming mini- mathematicians. These resources will create a memorable and meaningful math curriculum.
