My Students

Hands on math activities are usually the most beneficial for my second grade students. My students struggle year after year with the concepts of money and time. These manipulatives will give each child the opportunity to practice working with these concepts.

Please help bring math to life for my class!

My students attend a public city school. In my class, students with special needs are educated together with their peers. Second graders light up when they find out that they get to use manipulatives during a math lesson! We do not have enough math manipulatives and many are broken. Our school budget is very limited. With these materials, all of my students will get to touch, explore, and solve with their own materials.

My Project

Year after year, my second grade children struggle with the concepts of time and money. With these materials, I know that these challenging topics will be less stressful and more exciting for the children. I plan to use these materials to create exciting lessons that are hands on and interactive! With magnetic money, each child can work practice counting money and making change using magnetic white boards we have in our classroom. I continuously struggle to teach my children about elapsed time while using broken clocks. With these new clocks, each child will see how the hour hand moves in relation to the minute hand. I am also requesting interactive CD-roms about money and time. I plan to use these on my smartboard to help make my instruction interactive!

Please help my students have fun, meaningful and successful experiences in math while they are young!
